"WE TRAIN FIRMLY BUT GENTLY USING POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT TECHNIQUES "

Complete Canine Conditioning

We started this off as a pilot program but it has become an instant success! It was designed for dogs with serious behavior issues and / or owners who were unable to control them due to their own physical disabilities, lack of time and or patience. In this program, we train your dog and modify their unwanted behavior, teaching them how to be more obedient, social and transforming your unruly canine into that well mannered family companion that you always wanted. We also teach you on a week to week basis how to handle your dog and maintain their level of training that was established in our program.

Hourly in home training

Does your dog dislike the mailman or maybe your neighbor? Bark at the windows when people, cars or other animals pass by? Does he claim your furniture? Does your yard look like land mines just exploded due to his digging? Some problems are best fixed at home. Through this course, we will address and modify your dogs specific  behavior issues as they arise at your residence on an hourly basis.

Puppy Preschool

Starting at 8-10 weeks of age, our course is designed around the temperament using a lot of encouragement, praise and rewards (positive reinforcement) imprinting desirable habits in your puppy and preventing undesirable behavior. We will address proper socialization, confidence building exercises, feeding, house training, crate training, mouthing, jumping, how to motivate your pup and much more including some basic commands on a 6 foot leash. We build foundations for future success.

Basic  obedience On Leash

Our Basic course is one on one training. Our program is designed around your dogs temperament. All exercises are performed in our climate controlled indoor distraction free facility on a six foot leash. The commands consist of sit, stay, down, come and heel. Basics help create a clear understanding of what you should expect from your dog, and your dog understanding and respecting what is expected of him/her and your leadership. We will address some behavior problems as described in Puppy Preschool as well as provide the foundation for more advanced commands later on, setting the rules or boundaries for acceptable behavior around other animals and people in any situation.

Advanced Obedience Off Leash

This course starts as a one on one and then comes together as a group class. It  consists of the same exercises as the Puppy Preschool and Basic course, in addition, we use minimal, moderate and maximum distractions both on and off leash at various distances and also incorporate hand signals. We set up "real life" situations, and re-enactments so you know how to properly handle yourself and your canine should the need ever arise. We train indoors and outdoors(weather permitting). We will also teach you how to communicate with your dog through his and your body language, understanding canine behavior,(what and why they do the things they do). Socialization, behavior modification and problem solving are all included in this course. As with all courses, our program is designed around YOUR dogs temperament.

A success story from Paula russello

I'd like you to meet Ariel. She is a 7 year old mixed mutt that I fostered at age 2 in April of 2002 through the Rome Humane Society. Ariel came to me with a variety of health problems and really needed a quiet place to begin her recovery. She was brought in as a stray and gave birth to a litter of pups in the shelter. I had fostered her in after her pups were whelped and weaned off of her.

She was heart worm positive, had whip worm, ring, hook and tapeworms and was going to need extensive medical treatments. After a few days, some rest, and started her treatments, she began to settle in. Her background was unknown and it was believed that she had always been a stray. She was a little fearful, submissive with some things and somewhat unsocial. After about 1 month I started to become more bonded with her and her with me.

Ariel's health slowly started to improve, her temperament becoming more relaxed and trusting, so I decided to train her.

Through positive reinforcement with minimal corrections, I modified her behavior by showing her what was ok and what was unacceptable. I taught her how to be more social and less fearful around people of all ages, sounds and other animals and she was taught Basic Obedience. I contacted director Michael Massurin and requested to adopt Ariel from the foster program as she was very intelligent, she had an excellent temperament and a willingness to please, and she displayed great drives and instincts which were excellent for tracking. Both her and I were very happy when Michael said "I wish there were more people like you that cared, Congratulations on your new dog".

None of this happened overnight. It took time, patience, a good sense of humor and knowing how to properly teach Ariel, to assist her in becoming the wonderful companion that she is today. I'm happy to report that Ariel is now trained in Advanced Obedience, and in the Spring, she will begin her training in Agility, as she's still full of energy, even at 7 years old!

She has become a wonderful addition to my family. We will be using her in our demonstrations to show people all dogs can be well trained companions, even those that started off on the wrong side of the tracks.

Ariel's Agility Update: We are pleased to announce that Ariel's Agility training is coming along very nicely. After 1 week of training, she has displayed an eagerness to please and absolutely loves Agility .Please check out the gallery pages for photos of her in action.

Thank you for taking the time to read our success story. We look forward to educting you and your pet, into becoming life long companions.
