" WE TRAIN FIRMLY BUT GENTLY "
in home Behavior modification
Some problems are best fixed at the source. We will address and modify your dogs specific unruly behavior as it arises at your residence. Some of the issues we deal with are barking at neighbors or other animals that pass by. Separation anxiety. Chasing cars, kids or other animals, aggressive or fearful issues. Unsocial behavior towards friends and foe.
Resource guarding and territorial behavior. (Claiming items, people or other household pets as their own).Fearful and aggressiveness towards household items and people.
We not only rehabilitate your dog ,we teach you how to create a stable environment to keep your dog feeling secure and keep you and your family as the pack leaders.
As with all of our courses, this program is designed around your dogs temperament.
In Home Puppy Preschool
Starting as early as 8-10 weeks of age, we will teach you proper natural pack structure using
instinctive and
associative learning techniques. Owners will learn how to become clear decisive leaders and puppies will learn how to respect your authority and follow your lead. Through instinctive ,associative and classic conditioning, we encourage praise and rewards (positive reinforcement) imprinting desirable habits in your puppy, while discouraging and preventing future undesirable behaviors using natural forms of corrections when necessary. We will address proper socialization, confidence building exercises, feeding, house training, crate training, mouthing, jumping, play, how to motivate your pup including some basic commands on a 6 foot leash. We build foundations for future success.
Complete Canine Conditioning
This program was designed for those dogs with serious behavior issues where the owners have lost positive control and immediate action is required. We will bring your pet into our home where he will live and interact within our pack. We will address their specific issues, bring stability and solid pack structure. Once rehabilitation is complete, your dog will be returned to you and we will come to your home and teach you the skills necessary to maintain stability and structure within YOUR pack.
Basic On Leash obedience
Our Basic course is private one on one training. Our program is designed around your dogs temperament. All exercises are performed in our climate controlled indoor distraction free facility on a six foot leash. The commands consist of sit, stay, down, come and heel. Basics help create a clear understanding of what you should expect from your dog, and your dog understanding and respecting what is expected of him/her and your leadership. We will address some behavior problems as described in Puppy Preschool as well as provide the foundation for more advanced commands later on, setting the rules or boundaries for acceptable behavior around other animals and people in any situation. In this course, we also teach and modify animal behavior , what and why they do what they do and how to properly address the behavior to contain its escalation.
Advanced Off Leash Obedience
Advanced consists of some of the same exercises as the Puppy Preschool and Basic course, in addition, we use minimal, moderate and maximum distractions both on and off leash at various distances and also incorporate hand signals. We set up controlled "real life" situations, and re-enactments so you know how to properly handle yourself and your canine should the need ever arise. We train indoors and outdoors(weather permitting) and on and off premises. We like road trips ! It is important that your dog responds EVERYWHERE .We will also teach you how to communicate with your dog through his and your body language, understanding canine behavior,(what and why they do the things they do). Socialization, behavior modification and problem solving are all included in this course. As with all courses, our program is designed around YOUR dogs temperament.
just for fun and exercise
Indoor SEASONAL exercise program
It is difficult to condition your dog and make sure that they get enough exercise during inclement weather. So we created an indoor play area with a variety of activities where your and your dog can spend one on one time with our trainers on the treadmill, agility equipment or learning freestyle. Keeping your dogs mind is just as equally important as keeping his body fit. In addition we have also designed mind stimulation activities. This is not a doggie day care. This is a private 1 hour session where you can drop off or stay with your dog. As with our other programs, this fun activity will be designed around your dogs temperament and physical capabilities.
Agility
This course introduces the dog to the most common agility obstacles. The obstacles are the Tunnel, Chute (Closed Tunnel). Window, Ladder Weaves, A-Frame, Dog Walk, and a variety of Jumps. Each session will have a variety of obstacles set up in sections allowing repetitions of the obstacles to make your dog successful and confident about each task. We train for fun and exercise not competition. We have an indoor and outdoor training arena with equipment for small, medium and large dogs.
freestyle
Freestyle is when the dog and handler truly become one in movement through choreographed obedience and music chosen to match your dogs rhythm. This class is great for any pet owner wishing to build a better bond with their dog ,get some exercise and just have fun with obedience.
Safety Awareness
"Prevention Through Education"
Business Presentations
A beneficial program that was designed with your field employees in mind. Dog bites occur daily in the US. There were a recorded amount of 23 US fatal attacks that occurred in 2008. 78% of those attacks occurred on the owners property. Everyday Utility workers, delivery service organizations and postal carriers to name just a few encounter dogs and are faced with some form of a canine challenge.
Our demonstrations and informational seminars are provided at your facilty. They will include instructions and hands on participation with issues such as entering or leaving a premises, how to avoid attacks and conflicts, what to do if you are being attacked, chased or bitten.
Animals Behaviorists and Trainers, David Carr and Paula Russello, will show you by use of one of their demo dogs, indications on canine behavior as well as address constructive ways to effectively confront dog owners, changing their perception on their dogs behavior so that you can more efficiently complete your job.
Please contact us for further information as each presentation is designed specifically for your companies requirements.
School Presentations
Our demonstrations and informative programs are grade and school specific, designed so that each student understands at their grade and age level. During the one hour presentation, students, teacher and staff members will learn hands on with one of our canines;safety in properly greeting or approaching a dog, what signs to look for indicating if a dog is friendly or not.
What to and not to do in the event a strange dog approaches you and why it is important to have their pets trained.
We also discuss how various working dogs are trained to aid in public use.
For the older students going into trade, we address animal behavior offering advice that will assist them with their future fields, giving them a hands on demonstration with one of our canines.
In addition, a member from the NYS Troopers will accompany one of our trainers and will address preventative measures on canine and general safety. For the older students, forensics material is also discussed as well as demonstrating a working dog in action.
In the past, our Prevention through Education Programs have proven to help
students and adults remain calm, confident and in control in most situations.
Paula's personal story

I'd like you to meet Ariel. She is a 9 year old mixed mutt that I fostered at age 2 in April of 2002 through the Rome Humane Society. Ariel came to me with a
variety of health problems and really needed a quiet place to begin her recovery. She was brought in as a stray and gave birth to a litter of
pups in the shelter. I had fostered her in after her pups were whelped and weaned off of her.
She was heart worm positive, had whip worm, ring, hook and tapeworms
and was going to need extensive medical treatments. After a few days, some rest, and started her treatments, she began to settle in. Her background was unknown and
it was believed that she had always been a stray. She was a little fearful, yet submissive with some things and somewhat unsocial. After about 1 month I started to become more bonded with her and her with me.
Ariel's health slowly started to improve. Her temperament became more relaxed and trusting, so I started to rehabilitate her.
Through positive reinforcement with minimal corrections, I modified her behavior by creating a stable environment (showing her boundaries, what was ok and what was unacceptable). I taught her how to be more social and less fearful around people of all ages, sounds and other animals and she was taught Basic Obedience.
I contacted then director Michael Massurin and requested to adopt Ariel from the foster program as she was very intelligent. She had an excellent temperament and a willingness to please, and she displayed great drives and tracking instincts. Both her and I were very happy when Michael said "I wish there were more people like you that cared, Congratulations on your new dog".
None of this happened overnight. It took time, patience, a good sense of humor and knowing how to properly motivate Ariel, to assist her in becoming the wonderful companion that she is today. I'm happy to report that Ariel is trained on and off leash in Advanced Obedience, Agility
and at 9 years old she's still full of energy as if she were a 6 month pup.
She has become a wonderful addition to our family. We use Ariel in all of our demonstrations to show people that all dogs can
be well trained companions, even those that started off on the wrong side of the tracks.
Ariel is also part of our Conditioning program. Her stability helps us rehabilitate those animals that lack the important communication skills that were never imprinted as a pup or taken to early from their pack.
Thank you for taking the time to read our success story. We look forward to educating you and your pet, into becoming life long companions.
